My husband and I visited Plains, Georgia, on our way to Savannah, Georgia. We absolutely LOVED the town. We stayed at the charming Plains Inn, visited the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm, Museum, Train Depot Campaign Headquarters, and the Welcome Center. It was Halloween night and I sat on the balcony of the Inn watching the children of Plains trick-or-treating. We drove all over the town, too. The next day (Sunday) we attended church services at the Maranatha Baptist Church and sat on the front row while President Carter taught Sunday School. It was really great! After services, we got our picture taken with Mr. and Mrs. Carter. This is something I will always remember!!

How I did it: Staying at the Windsor Hotel in Americus, Georgia, on the haunted third floor, I heard a little girl laughing in my room around three in the morning. This is something others have experienced, too. I wasn't frightened. Actually, I was surprised and quite calm. It was not scary, and after I realized what had happened after finishing in the bathroom, I crawled back into bed, and had one of the best sleeps o… Read how I did it…
How I did it: My husband and I stayed in the haunted Windsor Hotel in Americus, Georgia, on the way to Savannah. We stayed on the haunted third floor. The room was VERY nice. Around three in the morning, I could have sworn I heard a little girl laughing in our room as I woke up to go to the bathroom--one of the things that other people have reported. (Of course, I'd had some Long Island Iced Teas the evening before, but I don't … Read how I did it…
How I did it: I got my first education degree by finishing college in 2 and a half years instead of the regular four years (went to college year round, took lots of hours per semester, etc.), and started my first teaching position at the age of almost 21. I taught continually for the next 36 years, and saved, saved, saved my money. My husband (the BEST partner a woman could have) did the same thing, and together we avoided credit, saved our… Read how I did it…

My husband and I went to Savannah, Georgia. We absolutely loved the historic district. Everyone there was very friendly. We did all the typical tourist things such as a trolley tour of the city, the river cruise, the Hearse Ghost Tour, and we walked the entire city visiting all the squares and the prominent cemeteries. We ate at Paula Deen’s restaurant, went to Back In The Day Bakery, ate pralines down by the river….everything we did was fun. We went the first week of November, and it was nice because there weren’t many tourists and very few children were around (that made it even better). Thanks, City of Savannah, for your hospitality!
Yesterday, May 28, 2009, my husband and I officially retired from the teaching profession. We collected our last paychecks and drove away from the school feeling that the weight of the world had been lifted from our shoulders. We both have taught over 30 years, and WOW—has education ever changed?!! I am thankful that I am not a beginning teacher in the system today. Anyway, this goal has been met. Now we can travel, putter around the house, and play golf whenever we want. I’ll be 56 in October. Life is GOOD!!
