Today is so fail!

I’m here on 43Things writing this entry because I started off writing a post to other lecturers about a course, but I needed to update my signature block’s image to point to a new location. I had previously moved the images but today I decided that I hadn’t put them where they belonged. I realized I couldn’t find the password for the account of where I wanted to upload them. That led me to my password keeper and manually looking through entries. I noticed at least one entry was a website that wasn’t around and that led to me to wonder how many others were like that and found myself visiting entries in alphabetical order. That’s how I ended up on 43Things where I then proceeded to go through my list.

Has my original post I was writing to the lecturers been posted yet? No. Have I moved the images and updated my signature block? No. Have I found the password? No.

ADHD is alive and well over here.

Still doing this

I see I marked this as complete 6 years ago, but I’m still doing it today. Every month $200 CDN goes out of my account and into my RRSP. It’s still not a lot of money. However, most years that represents at least 14% of my pre-tax income (student life, don’t you know?).

Complete my first World of Warcraft study for my Ph.D.
Untitled

After several months of design, I ran my first World of Warcraft study around Easter in April of 2010. 51 people started the survey and finished the first page consisting of questions about their in-game life: how long had they played, what was the first character they created, how much time did they estimate they spent per week, what was their /game time reporting, etc. Only 39 finished the second and third parts: the essay about why they play and real-world data like their gender, age, nationality, etc.

The numbers don’t sound large, but I didn’t want more than about 50 people writing essays. Analyzing essays is fairly resource-intensive. I intended to use the results of this study to design a subsequent study for a larger number of people.

I’m still working on doing the analysis and about to set up the goal of writing the paper for it.
