I personally gave up on this, as much as I enjoyed it, because it’s really not something that you can just do for an hour once a week and forget about it the rest of the time.
For your time invested to yield anything, you really have to dedicate yourself and be willing to keep up with it. However, judging by my teacher’s health at his age the benefits are probably worth it.

Learning French isn’t so difficult, grammar-wise. Once you know the rules of the language, it pretty much sticks to them. However, learning pronunciation can be daunting. It’s also a little more difficult than say, Spanish, to comprehend when it’s being spoken to you. I’ve taken three times as many French classes, and I still did better in Ecuador than I did in France or Belgium.
