Adopt A Soldier 17 months ago

A few days ago, I recieved a reply from my “adopted” soldier and it made my day. I learned a good bit about him, what he does, where he’s stationed. Right now, he’s in Kuwait and he’s holding on good. The heat sucks though, apparently—That’s a given, though. I need to send another care package soon.

He’s a nice guy, funny. And I can tell he likes being sarcastic, like me. Not that much older, most people in the military are young, I guess. Even though he’s with lots of other soldiers, he supported me by telling me I did a good thing by enlisting. Hope I get a reply soon! =]

There’s this good site that gives you a soldier that you can “adopt” and it’s free, too! www.approvedangels.com Hope you can find it in your heart to help the brave men and women who’re defending our country. <3

make my recruiter proud
Navy Bells 18 months ago

Sometimes, I wonder how I get into these situations!

Today, my recruiter came to my school without notice to pickup my transcript and whatnot to make sure I’m still on course to graduate. And then he invites me to come with him to get his lasik eye surgery. I knew I was supposed to hang with my friend, but he said it wouldn’t take long. And there was no one else to go with.

So, I go with him, and we’re waiting too long, so I had to cancel the palns with my friend even though I’ve been promising to hang with her all week. I can tell she was sad, and I felt really, really bad—I gotta draw a picture for her or something to make it up.

So anyway, I guess you could say I served as his "emotional support" throughout the surgery. I waited in the wating area until he came out, damn near blind. Held his hand and patted his shoulder while he sat and rested. He was scared a bit. Sometimes my recruiter can be so much like a kid, it's funny. He's a spoiled man, haha. But, he's cool.

After it was done, I packed his prescriptions into my bookbag and literally guided him towards the office. It was about 5 blocks, in the rain. A lot of people were staring because with the shades they gave to him to wear, nobody could tell he couldn’t see. So, it just looked like a gilr holding onto the arm of a navy man—I can just imagine the ides. But, you know what, I don’t really care. My recruiters always there for me most of the time, so I was gonna be there for him. Besides, I couldn’t just leave him there alone; he needed help. If it weren’t for the other recruiter, I would have escourted him through the subway ride from Brooklyn to the Bronx to make sure he was alright.

What can I say? I'm a dependable person. I help when people are in need. I can't save the world, but I try whatever I can. I called earlier to remind him to take his medication and on Monday I'll check to see if he's doing better. Before I go off to bootcamp, I want to make a lot of nice memories at the Navy office.

Most of all though, I want to make my recruiter proud of me.

take more photographs
Life Snaps. 18 months ago

I’m tired of walking around without a camera. Now that I’m thinking more on what I’ll have to look back on, taking pictures of everything in my life is very important to me. My digital camera broke, but I’m gonna buy a disposable camera, since it’s easier to get the pictures [rather than printing]

I’ll take a whole bunch of pictures that remind me of my life and save them to put them in my scrapbook. I’ll also do more things, just so I can have something to take a picture of. I have a few months before bootcamp so, rock out! =D
