Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

I finally found my 100th cache today! Hopefully this makes me less of a “newbie” now. :)



drink more water

I gave up all my favorite calorie filled drinks like regular coke and mountain dew about 6 months ago. Now I drink gatorade and diet drinks. I have never enjoyed water but I know I need to drink it. I will have to start drinking it with lots of ice. It must be freezing cold!



Run a mile without stopping
4 miles

I have been jogging 4 miles every day of the week since October. I have only missed a couple of days. I am not sure if what I do is considered speed walking, jogging, or running. I go about 6mph and never stop. It has helped me lose 60 pounds so far.



have better posture

Yea, I have been working on this one most of my life. My grandpa used to always tell me to sit up straight when I was younger. Having the correct posture actually hurts my back sometimes, maybe it hurts at first and then gets better.

Just like everyone else, I want to win! I only buy a couple tickets each year but I never win anything. Hopefully someday!

Well, I have one of those jobs where I have 100 roles and responsibilities. I keep getting more roles added to my job. I need to learn how to do all of these and still get things done. This is going to be a tough goal!



To speak louder
Can you hear me now?

Maybe it is because I am a shy person but people just can’t hear me. Nothing ticks me off more than someone saying “what did you say” or “I can’t hear you”. I need to start forcing myself to speak up. I think people think you are more confident when you do this as well.

Well, my wife wants us to start going to church. Maybe we could find friends there.

Ok, I bought some more dumbbells today. I also have a bench coming in the mail. I took the first step!

I want to start reading more. This includes reading for fun and reading information to improve my knowledge on my career. Now to just find the time!



do 100 pushups
Hard

This one is going to be hard. I can jog 6 miles and enjoy it, but the idea of doing just 10 pushups seems too hard. I will have to start small and work up. I did 50 last night, but I only did 5 at a time and took a break between each 5. My upper half is really sore after doing those!

So far I have 22 found and have hidden 3 (Discovery Scout). I need to get out there looking!



lose weight
At least 20 more to go

6 months ago I was 265, today I am around 210. My goal is to get somewhere around 180. I have been losing weight by eating around 500 calories at work, coming home and jogging 4 miles, and then eating whatever I want for dinner. It has really worked for me and I have never lost weight before! I just have to exercise and watch my calories. Giving up regular Mountain Dew helped a lot too.
