Last sunday, July 19, the sermon at my church was about Heroes. Our pastor asked as what we think a hero is. She gave us a chance to write down our answers. Here’s what I wrote:
What is a hero? Someone courageous, someone who speakes up for themself, someone who doesn’t care what other people think.
Last week, July 11—>18, I was at CHIC (Covenant High In Christ), a triannual conference for Evangelical Covenant senior highers. Our speaker on Monday, July 12, was Shane Claiborne. Do you know what I asked myself during sunday worship? I asked myself if Shane Claiborne was a hero. Yes, he is.
Before I say Shane’s presentation on that Monday, I would ask people who the speaker was. They all said the same thing. “The speaker tonight is Shane Claiborne. He makes his own pants.”
At CHIC, we talked a lot about becoming undone. That makes sense, this year was CHIC 2009 UNDONE. We also talked about taking away the mask we hide behind. About not being a Poser. In my opinion, heroes aren’t Posers. Heroes also aren’t afraid to be Undone.
