10/11/09 The Polkaholics 3 weeks ago

At the Red Line Tap, Chicago, Illinois.

What do you get when you mix Punk Rock and Polka? The Polkaholics!!!

So so so so so fun. Leiderhosen and sequined vests and all. Wireless guitars let the guys cruise thru the crowd. They were mixing Led Zeppelin with a polka beat and it was freakin’ great.

I was in Chicago for the Drinking Liberally National Conference so again…as at home…my friends and I owned the place.

10/4/09 Widespread Panic and the Allman Brothers surprise! 3 weeks ago

So my friend Lynn calls me one Sunday morning to catch up. We chat for a while and eventually he says “well, do you have energy today or are you wiped out?” OK…so it’s Sunday and of course I’m wiped out. “Oh that’s too bad,” he says, “because Warren called me yesterday and he’s got tickets and backstage passes for us at the Widespread Panic and Allman Brothers show tonight in Charlotte.” Yeah, my friend Lynn is good friends with Warren Haynes, among others. So off to Charlotte we went. Free parking, free tickets and backstage passes make an $11 beer more worth buying.

Hung out with Dave Schools (bass/ WSP) before the show. Hung out with Warren’s Dad Ed during the show and with Warren and his wife Stef in between sets. Got some inside info on the Xmas Jam!!! Can’t wait for that! After the show we were all hanging out while Greg Allman walked by, and Derek Trucks and his wife Susan Tedeski (super power!!!) too. Took some pictures of them with other folks who had those oh so modern phones with good cameras in them (security wouldn’t let me bring in my camera – boooo!). I refrained from running my fingers thru Derek’s hair. So tempting.

I have to say the best part of WSP was when Warren came out to do the last 2 songs with them. The Allman Brothers set was fantastic…especially when Susan joined them.

Thanks Lynn!!!!
