I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on November 9, 2006. When I was in the hospital, I was given needles, a prescription for insulin, a meter and that was about it. For months, I looked around to find people who were diabetic to try to answer my questions. A friend of mine started a site for people who were diabetic, lived with a diabetic or knew someone with this condition. I was so tired of listening to people who were telling me how sorry they were. To me, I was a person who just happened to have diabetes, and not a diabetic hoping to make a life for myself. That was so great about this site. There were others there who were diabetic and were willing to help me to learn.
