I’m not religious however I have wanted to do a bit of a body-detox for a while – mainly eating habits. I’ve found people quite mocking when I’ve previously tried and thought that lent was a good excuse for people to take me more seriously, and have a natural ‘time limit’.
I very rarely drink so alcohol so it would be too easy to give up and I’m vegetarian so no meat would be pointless.
I was thinking of either giving up added sugars or going vegan.
I’m not sure if going vegan would make much of an impact on my body’s health. I’m not sure if I could balance the deficiencies well enough to make it healthy.
Added sugar would be hard because I like hot-chocolate, bread and weetabix. If I do this I’d rather focus on all added sugars rather than just cutting out cakes, chocolate, etc. There is added sugar in so much food so it would mean I couldn’t eat out in restaurants either, which would be hard. But I think the removal of sugar would be good for my body, mind, and perhaps help stop any addictions/need my body has for it.
I want to do this for myself anyway but would like to have someone else also making a food sacrifice so I challenged my boyfriend to give up meat (including fish). He’s a chef so he does need to taste soups and sauces made from meat stoke in his work if nothing else however. I don’t think he could manage it. He said if there could be some sort of incentive to the challenge then he might. When he’s stayed with me and eaten vegetarian for a few days he does get very low in energy – he refuses to eat the extra pulses, nuts, eggs, tofu, milk, etc. I add to my diet if I feel I need more protein, and doesn’t seem to understand a need for carbohydrates too. He usually just eats meat with a little veg.
Also, I would like to start incorporating more time spent doing yoga because I think giving something up should come hand in hand with doing something new.
I’ll have a think.
