Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

- The Robots.

33. Sell on eBay

It’s kind of addictive! I was apprehensive about selling on eBay but it’s actually so easy and if you do everything through eBay or PayPal themselves you’re protected. I sold some Attack on Titan manga books which I got double of for Christmas and it’s great getting that email that says it sold.

32. Say Yes to Coffee at the Hairdressers.

This may be a weird one… but I’ve been going to the same hairdressers for years. They always offer me tea or coffee and I always refuse, despite actually wanting one. So the other day I said yes!

I wish I didn’t… By the time they were done washing my hair it was cold and every time I went to drink some there was an awkward arm twister with the stylist – I had more hair in my cup than coffee by the end of it.

Now I understand why everyone says no.

Okay okay...

So, I can definitely say that this goal hasn’t happened. In fact, nothing really worked out the way I hoped it would this year at all. I have experienced more things than I’ve written here but somehow I don’t think experiencing a family breakup and screwing up my future career plans is a particularly uplifting thing to look back on.

So I am going to make the same goal for 2014. But this time, I’m going to count as I go – if I do make it to 100, then great!

31. Enrol in a MOOC

A what? A MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course. The Open University have started up a range of free online courses in conjunction with major UK universities which anyone can join. They use a combination of video lectures, online forums and home learning with a social media style.

30. Spa Day

I don’t know why I did’t write about this before – guess I’ve had a lot of other stuff on my mind. I took my mum and sister on a spa day which was something none of us had ever done before. It was nice to be able to sit back and relax, drinking cocktails by the pool. The massage wasn’t too bad either.

29. Buy and let off fireworks

I didn’t get to go to an organised fireworks display this year so I bought my own and lit them in the garden :)

Getting somewhere!

So after a long while of feel g like I’d never be ready, I made the decision to change instructors. I feel so much more confident now and have booked a test for next year. It feels so far away but I’m more excited than nervous :)

28. Disneyland!

At 20 years old I still had never been to a Disney resort – can you believe that? So this year I grabbed my credit card and off I went to Disneyland Paris. I know people say it’s nothing on the USA resort, but we still didn’t get to do everything and I’d love some more time to go back. I know, I’m just a big kid at heart really :)

get a massage

There’s been a lot going on in my house recently and none of it is very good. So I’ve booked myself, my sister and my mum onto a spa day which includes a facial and massage :)

27. Stag Do

Okay, so I know girls aren’t allowed on stag do’s. But two of my good friends got married and I guess they thought I’d be more at home with the lads. There was a points and forfeits system set up and the night involved lots of drinking, a wedding dress and lots and lots of veet wax.

Survival Rule 1: Cardio

I’ve let my gym routine and fitness level slip in the past few months. Time to get back on it, I think. Death waits for no man, woman or lard-arse.

26. Surfing!

Whilst on holiday in Cornwall I took some surfing lessons – it was such great fun. I was only able to stand up on the board a couple of times but it was totally worth it. I want to go back and give it another go! :)

25. Go to an Oxygen Bar

I was at a festival this weekend and tried out one of the oxygen bars with my sister. Basically, what they do is stick a tube up your nose which is connected to 4 small tanks supplied with oxygen. Each tank has a different flavour and as you breathe the oxygen in through your nose you get the scented air/oxygen. You can mix the flavours as you go. It’s supposed to be good for your health, give you a burst of energy and cure hangovers. Honestly, it was just smelly air that had no real effect on me… Maybe I was doing it wrong.

24. Host an event

For my sister’s birthday I combined a birthday party with a cocktail night. This was the first time I’d done all the organisation and event hosting myself. It was incredibly stressful, but watching everyone enjoying themselves – and some of my improvised cocktails once booze started running out – was a lot of fun!

Today was a beautiful sunny day

So I took the day off work and decided to try and make some cocktails. This is my first margarita. Admittedly, it’s in a wine glass and I could do with some practice salting the rim, but it seemed pretty tasty :)

I used tequila, cointreau and fresh lime juice.
