OK, so I was really bad – really really bad. I didn’t practice at all before I left for my trip to Germany. The amazing part was that it all came back though. I carried on all these great political conversations entirely in German (aren’t they great at that). By the end of the second day, I was already thinking in German. When I tried to call my husband, I couldn’t even speak English anymore. My goal now is to continue using it, although after 16 years of barely speaking it, I think if I remembered this time, then I don’t need to worry about the next time!

I have tried to really focus on the girls more, so I spent much of July hanging with them. We had days where all we did was investigate the backyard critters and notice clouds and airplanes. Usually we have an agenda and the contrast has been wonderful for all three of us. Now in August, I am going to do more of the same with no school deadlines at all. It is wonderful to take this time in my life to really be with them when they still want to hang with me all the time. They grow up too quick not to take advantage of this time!
Not only did I manage to spend an entire day goofing off, I managed to spend an entire week goofing off. Thanks to my mother-in-law and wonderful husband, I left everyone behind (including all school related books, papers and my laptop) and went to Germany and the Czech Republic for over a week. I rode trains and transit, went to a good friends wedding and then played tourist with a girlfriend. I had at least one day in Prague with no agenda in which I wandered around shopping, eating and looking around. It was a much needed break!
