Another great resource for expanding your social network is facebook.com if you use your current network to help extend the introductions. Your friends might know people who live in the same city as you do or who might share similar interests. Ask your friends to connect you two!

There are some awesome online communities now that are designed to help you make new friends. We use online tools to find apartments, jobs and romance—why not use them to get connected to local girlfriends?

www.GirlFriendCircles.com is one online tool that is designed to match women to a handful of women their age (from the 20-something college graduate to the 50-something empty-nester) at a local cafe close to home! No looking through the personals or networking the large crowds—just meet other local women who value friendship.

Another great online resource is www.meetup.com where you can join an event or group based on a shared interest. Or, use www.facebook.com where you can use your current network to “introduce” you to people they know who live close to you or might share similar interests, etc.

Meeting new friends can be difficult since we don’t have acceptable protocol for just walking up to stranger and saying “will you be my friend?” But you’d be surprised how many other people want to expand their circle of friends too due to a move, a job change, a relationship status change, etc.
