take a walk every day (read all 2 entries…)
So far so good

I can’t say I’m taking a walk every single day, but I do it very often and it’s easier as I now walk home from work (about 4km). I try to go for a walk on weekends too and it’s not that difficult as I usually listen to my favourite music during these walks.

It has ben suggested that among other things, physical activity helps to prevent depression. I don’t know if it’s the long autumn, vitamin D capsules, walking or all of the abovementioned together, but this year I have very successfully avoided the winter blues

Be fluent in Italian
Untitled

Fluency in a foreign language is a life-long project so I’m afraid that when it comes to pressing the “I’m done” button here on the 43things site, it’ll take years.

However, I’m quite pleased with myself because I have climbed over a big obstacle, something i was afraid of for some time.
I have used Italian to do a tourist tour in my home city where I usually work as an English language guide.

This is so significant because usually when speaking in Italian, I’m always the passive one – the native speakers speak, I listen and when they turn to me I get to answer. This time I was the active part, I was giving a monologue or even a sort of a lecture.

There is still a lot to improve when it comes to my language skills, but the tourists left happy and they did understand me all throughout the 3-hour tour.

Yay!

move to italy
the dilemma

The italian family i worked for as an au-pair has asked me if i’d want to spend this summer with them. I liked the kids, but looking after them was everything but a piece of cake.
I could earn some money, I could spend the summer in Tuscany and this time I’d probably be more relaxed and experienced with the kids.

But I have a great summer job. It pays a little less, but it’s much more fun. I would be free to come and go as i please whereas in the Tuscany summer house I’d depend on the family to give me car rides to the train or elsewhere. In the summer house i’d basically be with the kids for 24h a day 6 days a week….

But the house is in a lovely are with a semi-private beach.
But there is no freedom to come and go or do my own things
But it’d be Italy
But i’d be far from home and friends
But being in Italy is much more interesting than being here
But it’s very hot over there in the summer
But…
But—-

I have to decide very soon, but it’s difficult. Both options have a lot of great things about them and… also some negative factires

learing through music...

Soy tu aire
Soy de agua
Hago surcos
Pequeñitos
En la cera
Derretida
De tus ganas
Y voy entrando poco a poco, muy poquito
En tus cosquillas
Me acomodo, te incomodo, pa que rías
Y me cuelo en este enredo sin llamar
Sin avisar
Soy tu aire
Soy tu agua
Te me bebes
Te atraganto
Me respiras
Te salpico
Te me tragas
Y me entretengo, juego un rato en tus recuerdos
Me los pongo en mis enaguas
Hago trizas tus lamentos, creo fantasías locas
Y confundo tu memoria con la punta de mis besos
Soy del aire
Soy del agua
Soy del aire
Soy del agua
Vuelo libre
No me ates
Que me escapo
Entre medio
De tus dedos
Impasible te convierto lo imposible en impensado
Y construyo en lo inseguro
Un futuro improvisado
En que uno y uno no hagan dos
Y los demás estén de más y ya no sean nadie
Soy tu aire
Soy tu agua

better weather

well, it’s finally spring, the weather is better, the ice has melted and so I have modified my goal just a little: now it’s either cycle, walk or rollerskate at least once a day…

contribute to wikipedia
progress :)

So, now I have expanded significantly an article on the Estonian Wikipedia. Even though my work isn’t something brilliant, it still means significant progress. And the great thing about wikipedia – it’s not written in stone, so it is always possible to improve the articles.

It took me a while to really get going, but now see how great it really is to do it!

Take a photo every day
Went to Italy for a week...

and I forgot my camera at home. That makes me rahter sad… Had good time there nevertheless

spend less time on facebook (read all 2 entries…)
One fb-free day a week

...I am sure that’s not so hard to do!

Damn you, Nutella! You’re so tasty!

drink less coffee
I love coffee, but....

but it’s one of the most eco-violent food products, besides I think it is ridiculous that when I am not able to drink a cup in the morning, I get a headache.

I love coffee, but I once started drinking it with an amusing idea that when I have developed an addiction, I’ll have to exercise my willpower and stop. Ok, now I will try to do this!

spend less time on facebook (read all 2 entries…)
We all managed just fine without it some 5 years ago

Facebook is fun but what is it really necessary for? Nothing? Did I live just fine before I even knew what facebook was? Of course!
Yes, people share cool links, it’s nice and relaxing to see what my friends are up to or listen/watch something someone has recommended. But being on facebook essentially just means spending more time on computer and this time could and should be used for other things such as reading or taking a walk or…yeah this is a really heretic idea – see a friend in real life and ask what he or she has been up to instead of spying on Facebook

There’s work to be done and facebook is the perfect tool for procrastination. I need to reduce my time there significantly. It’s not that something really vital goes on there anyways….

“Less time” is a very generic goal. So, what I’d want to achieve is 15 minutes minutes (or less) time on facebook daily.

First thing I can do:
Remove facebook tab from Skype
Not that I use this feature much, but let’s remove the temptations as well…

Not doing so well at the moment, but replacing candy with almonds, nuts and such has helped a lot!

Learn Lithuanian
Untitled

My father is lithuanian and so I can speak the language, but except a brief course in my uni, I’ve never learned any Lithuanian grammar. Besides small-talk, I’d really want to learn the language well as I already have a head-start. But it’s a difficult language which requires dedication. Now, I just need to find time and willpower to learn to improve my vocabulary and learn to write without mistakes.

My first goal: read an article in Lithuanian at least once a week. Look up unknown words, understand the text. This week’s challenge is on the picture :)

write a novel
Untitled

Finally started writing down an idea i’ve had for months. If I’ll have enough willpower and less self-criticism than I usually do, this idea (which i really believe is brilliant) will become a short story….

First a short story, then a novel. Or so I hope…

Volunteer
:)

It took me a while but I finally found the type of volunteer work i’d like to. So, I complied the library volunteer questionnaire and they contacted me. Nice but what is even better is the fact that when they’ll have a job opening, they’ll consider me as a candidate. A very nice surprise!
