Dresden Dolls

I’ve known this band for quite a while – long enough to get over the addiction and pass it on to several slow-to-catch-on duds. Hm.
This is a two-person band fronted by Amanda Palmer and backed up by Brian Viglione. They describe themselves as “Brechtian Punk Cabaret” which is probably acurate. The songs are played on piano and the entire affair is theatrical in nature. You’d have to listen to some songs to understand it. I reccommend Girl Anachronism, Coin-Operated Boy, Sing, and Good Day.
Check out their bitchin’ site and the graphics alone might clue you in. Beware for some nudity and questionable content. But don’t mind that; Just open your mind already.

The band Paramore is an American ‘pop rock’ band with lead singer Hayley Williams.
I first saw them by chance when I was exposed to television for a precious 40 minutes (I don’t have TV. o_0)
They were preforming Misery Business in their video. Honestly I didn’t care much for the teenage mainstream angle, but as far as the sound went I was intrigued enough to write down the band name and check them out.
Right now I have two songs of them, Misery Business and We Are Broken. The first is a fairly slamming song about the struggle over a boy and getting back at the bitch in question, even though she didn’t mean to but “it just feels so good.”
Judging by that first song, I’d be tempted to label them ‘punk’ but then I’m reminded by common sense that punk is traditionally geared towards politcal protest, not the woes of love. Silly me. XD
“We Are Broken” is a slower song that I’m actually using for a fanvid; it’s basically about comfort and the loss of innocence. Nothing really groundbreaking, but if you’re not violently opposed to teenage pop pseudo-punk, then they’re worth checking out.

I came out to my dad over the holiday break. They say it’s not a good idea but I wanted my brother and sister-in-law there so it was my only chance, and I was expecting to do it after the holiday rush, a day or two before we ahd to leave so I could smooth out any aftermath.
Things never go to plan, do they? There was a huge blowout with his b*tch girlfriend but things were sort of okay afterwards and then my sister-in-law made it painfully obvious that I had something to tell him when I wasn’t expecting it.
Telling him was awkward but I tried for subtle and also for open to questions and willingness to discuss. It’s an important thing. So now he knows but I’m not sure he understands my sincerity about this. I’m sure he wishes that I’m not sincere, that I’ll ‘grow out of it.’ Does he know that women in their 30’s are much more prone to ‘experimentation’?
Things are… okay, but he’s a religious sort. He didn’t say it straight forward but he said to me, “I think in all people there are certain… curiosities. Depravities.”
I guess I’m depraved, then. I haven’t even got anything to show for it.

I pulled my math coach aside to figure out what was giving me a hard time. He couldn’t help with all of it, but just from having him go over it, I know I’ll do well at the next meet.

There’s a new website, http://www.freerice.com that has been raising rice for hungry people.
Advertisers pay for the rice and all you have to do is play their vocabulary game and earn up rice. There is no limit to how long/how many times you play. It’s good practice for students and you are also helping those in need.
I’ve already spread the word among my school about this site. What will you do?

This band is already broken up and over with, but they’re new to me. I discovered them through some lyrical icons on LJ communities. With a little search I found Jack Off Jill, an all-female band.
Their songs took a moment to adjust to, but they are definitely a great band. They are hard rock with a different angle, since the female perspective is definitely different than the male perspective. They’re more feminine than Otep, for sure, but they are far from pop.

I found this website http://freerice.com/index.php via Black20.com
It’s a simple vocabulary testing site and not only will dozens and hundred of fresh words be thrown at you, it will adjust to your vocabulary level and each correct answer will donate ten grains of rice to hungry people! Pretty cool, huh?
From the site FAQ: “When you play the game, advertisements appear on the bottom of your screen. The money generated by these advertisements is then used to buy the rice. So by playing, you generate the money that pays for the rice donated to hungry people.”
“When you play the game, advertisements appear on the bottom of your screen. The money generated by these advertisements is then used to buy the rice. So by playing, you generate the money that pays for the rice donated to hungry people.”
And it accumulates very quickly. What are you waiting for?

I wrote it in pencil in the bathroom stall. I don’t think I’ll go back there; it’s bound to be rubbed out by now or some snappy retort added.
I want to write it somewhere more permanent and even larger and nicer looking. I want it to be inspirational to someone.

I’ve got a bottle of water on me right now. ^^
I don’t get to drink water so much. It’s hard for me to see how people can drink eight bottles a day, but that’s because I get so little time I guess.
I’ve just finished off one bottle, not to mention about three glasses of Crystal Light – which is surprisingly tasty and I love it now. (Crystal Light = water and flavor powder so it counts) Plus another glass of Crystal Light from this morning.
That brings the grand total to: 5 glasses of water. Pretty good, not the reccomended amount, but some people don’t drink any water at all.

I feel so horrible. I’m out to everyone except for my dad. I really want to tell him, since everyone else has known for a long time, but I haven’t seen him much less had a chance to talk to him. I keep thinking when I go see him I’ll come out, but I just think it might destroy our relationship. He’s so religious and I don’t want a stupid religious speech from him, I just want him to love me still.
I have to tell him soon: it kills me more to keep it from him. It makes me feel like I’m acting like I don’t love him, but I really do, that’s why it’s so hard to do this.

Back to the techno craze, I discovered the band Justice, specifically their song D.A.N.C.E. Black20 links led me to a band of impersonators playing to that song. It’s sung by a UK children’s choir – unlike some stupid CD’s that are sung by talentless mutants, the kids actually sing so it’s really quite good. Very catchy as well. Worth listening to if you can appreciate a good dance beat. I’m not sure about the band overall.

When discovering Killswitch Engage I also rediscovered Spineshank. I was first exposed to their song “Violent Mood Swings”, which is an awesome song and have since listened to other songs and determined that they are an awesome band.
Spineshank is a really appropriate name to describe how their songs hit you. They are hard rock/metal, and live up to the labels. If you’re itching for some hard rock, they’re worth checking out.

I discovered Killswitch Engage the other day. I’ve certainly heard of them plenty of times but when I was looking for some hardcore music the other day they were a great find.
The sound resembles Disturbed or Slipknot, but whereas Slipknot is satanic, these guys are Christian. So if you would enjoy Slipknot except for the lack of holyness, you could substitute these guys instead. Me, I’ll take both, thank you.

I missed first guitar club meeting. I had prior arrangements with my environmental club. It was focused on guitar strings and ironically, I have a broken string and no knowledge of how to replace it. Gar.

I started getting clips together and the write kind of music. I think that “Fixation on the Darkness” by Killswitch Engage will be a great choice for what I want. Footage takes up a lot of space, so I transeferred it off my harddrive. I hope my editing skills have improved – although I can’t see how, I don’t practice enough XD

The other day I signed up for some clubs in my school. I’m already part of: Math team and Gang Green.
I really want YAPS (Young Americans of/for Political Science),
and Guitar Club, butonly if someone is willing to show me the basics
These ones might not work out:
Drama (demands lots of time.)
Civil Rights Team (Might just be a boring group for me, and meeting are on the same days as Gang Green’s recycling days.)
