So after I worked on addressing the medical drivers for this issue, I wanted to work on holistic options to help with it as well. I did some research and found two things on Amazon (of all places). One is a blue light that cycles on and off. You are to match your breathing to the light cycle as you go to sleep. Amazingly, I was able to go to sleep prior to the end of the 7-minute cycle on the first night. After a few months, I am now able to turn off the light and go to sleep in the dark in just a few minutes. This is something that I haven’t done in years. Needless to say, I am impressed and happy with the results.
The other item I bought was an alarm clock which mimics the rising sun. It starts to slowly turn on 30 minutes before the alarm time and then it plays bird sounds instead of a radio or buzzer alarm. I still hit the snooze button but I do find that I’m a little less irritable about waking up. I am a night owl, so it is tough for me to go to bed before 11:30pm. If I could just go to bed by 10pm, then I think getting up by 6am or 6:30am would be no problem. This is the next thing I am working on.
So, to sum up, I am able to get to sleep faster, stay asleep longer, and wake up in a better state. Now if I could just get myself to go to sleep a bit earlier, I think this will continue to get better. I am definitely glad that I have made this a focus to improve my life.
