I have one more week of accounting and then I have three more five week classes. All done by the end of December 2010. I’m really glad that I chose to do this even though I thought about going for my Master’s instead. I’ll probably do that starting in February 2011. We’ll see! How about I just focus on finishing this program first?!

I cannot believe it, but I passed the exam my first try on 6/28/10. I was so nervous and when the screen finally came up with the words “Congratulations! You have passed the SPHR exam” I had a hard time not yelling out. I don’t think the testing facility would have been cool with that. Only about 50% of testers ever pass it and I know a bunch who didn’t pass their first try! Anyway, this is a big deal professionally and I’m really glad I did it.
I’ve been out of work since November 2008. I’ve been diligently looking for a job since then. Nothing. I’m in that middle “no job land” where I have a lot of experience but I look way too expensive for someone to hire. They think that I’m too risky, that I’ll jump as soon as a better paying job comes along. Truth is, I’m a stability junky. I do want to make more money but I’m more likely to try and do better where I am if I feel “safe” (whatever that means these days!). I don’t want to be on unemployment any longer. Those people who think that us long-term unemployed are just milking it for all it’s worth have no idea how difficult this really is. I’ve used this time as effectively as possible getting more college education and my professional certification. And still I am unemployed. I will overcome this. I’m just ready to overcome it before I lose everything I’ve worked so hard to gain.
