I bought a new camera last week! I brought it to Arizona with me this past weekend and took some pretty good pictures. I’ve only learned the bare minimum about how it works, though – just enough to get by for the trip. I need to spend more time figuring out how everything works. My goal – to learn one new thing about this camera each day. My first step is printing off the instructions manuals so I can download the pictures onto my computer. Plan to do this tomorrow at work . . .

I spend entirely too much time living in my head . . . never really seeing the world around me. I’ve decided that focusing on my creative goals might be a way of reconnecting with the world around me. I want to take a drawing class in the fall, as part of my goal to obtain an Associates Degree in Fine Arts, and also become more involved in photography. I joined a camera club at work, which is helping, and I’ve been going to a lot of museums. Hopefully all of these things will help! We shall see . . .

I’d listed this as one of my goals earlier this week, but then deleted it, because I thought it was kind of silly, actually. But, lo and behold, today I received an email from one of my favorite independent bookstores listing their upcoming book signings, and guess who’s going to be signing books there in May – Bobby Flay! So I guess I might be able to really do this after all!

In New York: the George Eastman House in Rochester, the Frick, Cloisters, and Guggenheim in New York City, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Gardner Museum in Boston, and the Hillstead Museum in Farmington, Connecticut. There are plenty of others to visit, but these are the “biggest” ones currently on my list!

Before I commit to actually becoming a picture framer, I decided to sign up for an “Introduction to Picture Framing” course offered through the adult education program here in town. The five week course begins Thursay, May 1st. If I find I do indeed like framing pictures, then next steps would be to save for and buy the equipment needed, subscribe to trade magazines, frame the dozens of things I’ve got hanging around the house that need to be framed, and perhaps get a part-time job working at a frame shop or a place like Michael’s. A final goal would be to become a “Certified Picture Framer.” I’ll blog again after I take the course!
