I started geocaching in 2005, and went at it like crazy for a while! I got up over 900 caches within my first several months of caching, but then I sort of lost interest for a while. Now, I’ve been caching every so often, and realized that I was creeping up on 1,000, slowly but surely. So, I decided to make it a goal, and work toward it this summer. There are certainly enough caches locally for me to hunt, and it’s a nice way to get outdoors and get a bit of sun and exercise. Today we went caching by bike. Good fun. :)

How I did it: I went through training at a local wildlife rehabilitation center; my permit was issued by Fish and Game, through the rehab center. The training taught various techniques for handling and caring for animals, as well as the legal issues and responsibilities involved. It only took a few hours to go through all of the training for the permit (although in order to do in-home foster care, additional training is required for each individual typ… Read how I did it…
How I did it: By volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center. The mountain lions aren't being rehabilitated - they are permanent residents, or "ambassador" animals. Mostly, they get fed chunks of deer meat. It's kind of nerve-wracking - I only went in one part of their enclosure when they were locked into the other part, but it's still quite exhilarating (and a little bit scary) to be so close to such a powerful predator, even with chain link fenc… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I hooked up an old boom box to the computer, in which to play the cassettes. Using Audacity software (free!), I captured the audio. I also used Audacity to improve the sound quality of some parts of the tapes. Read how I did it…

Here are some of our ideas:
Camping
Whale/shark watching
Caving
Fireworks on July 4th
I’ll update about this as we come up with more – and accomplish some of them!
I had them all up to date a while back (after my trip to Australia), but since then, I’ve been quite a slacker about putting sighting records into my computer program. This is a project I’d like to complete this summer.
