How I did it: I'd run several shorter mud runs before, but never anything as long or difficult as this. I'd also been training for distance races throughout the season and working with a trainer 3X per week. In spite of all this, it was still a rough haul full of monster hills. They typically hold them at ski resorts, so the way the course usually gets laid out is run up ski slope, obstacle, run down ski slope, obstacle and then repeat for ~9 more… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Buddy of mine had run one before and cobbled together a team so I signed on. This course started in mountainous areas and gradually sloped downward from there, so the initial legs were full of hills; tough, but fun and challenging. Running at night was a new experience and the fog and clouds added an eerie dynamic. All Queen Anne’s Revenge dives for the remainder of the year have been canceled due to an uncooperative Mother Nature! Hopefully 2011 is better.
Five gallons. Required 2 1/2 gallons of dandelion heads. Took damn near all afternoon to pick that many. It’s been in the carboy for about six weeks. Next racking should be in about two months or so. Snuck a taste in transfer. It’s definitely got a unique flavor.
