How I did it: Practice, practice, practice. I worked out regularly at least 5 times/week and increased/staggered my intensity and distance in swimming, biking, running, lifting over 6 months. I’m almost finished with a certificate program and my employer is paying 50% of the bill. Not a bad compromise. I’d still like to complete a master’s or phd, but this will tide me over for a couple of years at least.
