11 days, but then... 23 months ago

So I went 11 wonderful days without alcohol. Yesterday, however, I slipped up and drank two bottles of wine. They didn’t make me feel good, buzzed, relaxed, whatever. I felt full and bloated and now have a headache. I had been sleeping 8 hours but last night I was back to waking up eery 3 hours. Bottom line, nothing positive came out of it. Except maybe the reminder that I don’t need or want to drink.

I’m keeping a calendar and every morning I get to wake up and mark off a day of none drinking. This morning I had to write “I slipped up”. Oh well stuff happens. I now start the count back at 1.

One week and almost a day down! 23 months ago

I can’t believe I have made it a whole week which may sound like a small feat but for someone who has had a drink every day for as long as I can remember it is something. Yesterday was a little tough, I was watching football thinking this doesn’t feel right something is missing oh yeah, I’m usually really buzzed when I watch football. But instead of cracking open a bottle of wine I thought about how bad I used to feel in the mornings, drank a lot of water and eventually the craving went away.

While I really like waking up feeling good the best part of this process is that my stomach is not as bloated. Yipee!

Reservoir Bears, good luck. If I can do it, anyone can. I wasn’t even taking the days off to get drunk, I was working from home and drinking. At least in some twisted way you were being more responsible? That was a joke. Keep us posted of you progress!

Day 5 - Not as Bad as I Thought 23 months ago

So it’s day 5 and I haven’t had or craved a drink. I do now have a full on cold/flu which sucks, especially since I’m avoiding nyquil type medicines because they are mostly alcohol. But even though I spent most of the night coughing, etc. it still felt better then being hung over!

Dakotasmom, don’t feel bad about slipping up, you are only human. Instead think of the successful days and be happy. Any small change toward a goal is better then none at all.
