Okay so this is a bit of a con as I have already been offered a five minute slot at the Free Fringe through a friend to read an excerpt from my short story and promote our book of short stories and poems for charity, but hey I still have to turn up (am terrifed) and I want to record this in things I have done this year AND I can say I’ve done it :O) Carpe Diem and all that craic. Eeek.

How I did it: I was offered the chance via a friend to read an extract from my story at a 'Free Fringe' Newbies Night event for writers who had never read their work on stage before. Signed up for it and despite the nerves had a brilliant night. It was a 5 minute slot in which I read about 1000 words from my short story. Read how I did it…
How I did it: All credit goes to a colleague in my work, who contacted a number of people he knew wrote poems and short stories to see if they would be interested in helping to write a book for charity. He pulled the whole thing together, setting up a project team, a dedicated reading panel, a deal with a reputable printing company, site sellers in all our offices and liased with a charity, etc. etc. etc. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Spoke to friends, family and work colleagues to see what local dentists they reccomended Went to one for a checkup to see what the surgery and dentist was like and what treatment I needed Told the dentist I was a nervous patient Bit the bullet and went for the treatment Read how I did it…

Can’t believe I am saying this, but will be receiving the first copies of the book in 2 days time on Friday 14th August. We have pretty much taken pre-orders for the whole first printing run of 2,000 books from staff in the organisation we work for and from friends and family, which is amazing as if we sell all 2,000 we will raise £7,500 for charity. Would highly recommend this model to any other writers working for large companies. It’s amazing how many writers we had on the books and how much interest it’s all generated.
