Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

If this is the very last day we have in virtual 43T land, then I just want to say (another) last THANK YOU, to EVERYONE, for making it “SO REAL”.

Taking a Tumble

The beginning of this month had me feeling positive about the days ahead – with our plans to get our new kitchen installed, a weekend wedding to attend, a 2week work contract pre-scheduled for me to get some more $$ in the bank, dinners & catch-up with friends, a long-weekend away to our favourite beach resort to celebrate D’s 50th Birthday before heading off to Fiji for a 3 week holiday!

Then the beginning of this week came about, jolting us back to reality.

On Monday D had an unexpected accident. Whilst out in the garden, killing time and weeds whilst waiting for some tradesmen to finish work in the kitchen, he lost footing and fell back over a brick retaining wall into the grounds of the property next door.
He broke a bone in his leg and smashed his tibia, near his knee. He has been in hospital ever since and tomorrow, he undergoes surgery and will then be out of action for at least 6 weeks!

Our travel plans are cancelled but you know, that’s okay. I’m just grateful that his fall wasn’t on his back, neck or head. It could have been so much worse.

All that matters is that he recuperates and we’re here for each other.

So as this week comes to an end, I WISH for D’s surgery to go well and be a success and will DREAM of his having a speedy and easy recuperation. And I will promise myself that whenever I find myself procrastinating about something I really want to do, I will go forth and just DO IT!
