play the guitar
on the way 3 months ago

I’ve been practicing with the guitar (an ancient nylon-string Yamaha) for about six months. At first, I practiced at least five hours per week. Then it dropped to one or two. Now, I’m starting to wonder when it’s going to start “clicking.”

I know that I’m better. I can play more stuff than I could. I’ve memorized a simple song, and I can start to play stuff by ear. I’m still terrible at chord changes, though.

Just bought an Electric Guitar and amp. I’ve got some Led Zepp riffs down, would like to be able to play “Johnny B Goode” and “American Woman” before year’s end.

Raise my GPA to 3.5
Depends where you start... 3 months ago

I came out of High School with so-so english scores and terrible math scores. My first year of University, I dedicated myself to studying in every subject. It paid off.

Commitment is only half the battle: you’ve got to persevere. On the night when you’ve been studying your B.S. chemistry assignment for the third time, do you have what it takes to read it through one more time just so you can get everything right?

Do you have what it takes to re-read that lame novel you were assigned for english, just so you’ll have a better chance answering the lame questions on the reading quiz?

University is not supposed to be easy. Nor is it supposed to be fun. “Student” does not mean “party animal.” Not that you can’t be both… you just have to figure out your priorities and then stick to them—no matter what.

I graduated with a 3.8 GPA. It was worth every party I missed, every chapter I hated, every question I took back to a prof to ask “call me a moron, but how come I didn’t get this??”

Make a Typhoon balisong from knifekits.com
Flipping Amazing 3 months ago

the folks at knifekits.com are wonderful to deal with. All the supplies you need are right there; if you’ve already got your own tools, that can save you a bit of coin. In any case, the typhoon is a great bali for the money. A BM42 or the like might be a bit better in terms of blade steel, but as a straight-up flipper I’d say the typhoon is neck-and-neck with anything less than an IKBS custom. (The BM42 is a lot lighter, but quite a few users like the heft.)

The assembly is very simple. It’s not just screw-together; you will have to use a round file to get the scales to fit the stop pins “just right.” Make sure you’ve got some locktite as well; otherwise the pivots aren’t going to stay tight for long… I recommend the red stuff.
