The writing process for my story is slow going. I’m up to about 24,000 words and there’s more still to come. For some people, the writing simply flows and they have to write it down to figure out the plot, the setting, and the characters. It isn’t that way with me. Right now, the entire finished story, polished and whole, is in my head. The hardest part is the writing, for me, not the creation. I was always creative and had no problem making things up in a fantasy land. It is the process of extraction that kills me. It’s like a long needle is pressed into my brain, siphoning out the words onto the paper in a painful, drawn-out stretch of time.
My main character constantly jabbers at me, telling me what she’s like me to do, and reminding me of her if I’m starting to forget about writing.
One thing that seems to help is carrying a notebook. That way, whenever the urge to write strikes, I’m covered. :)
