We’re still rolling! After months of draining chemo, my mother’s still doing well, teaching part-time and attempting to live a somewhat normal life (though the “norm” is constantly re-defined). The tumor has shrunk over 60% in recent months and both of Doctor and chemo nurses at Hopkins have been amazed by our progress, dubbing my mother the “Posterchild” for success. I am so grateful for the excellent care we have received and can easily attribute much of our success to the hardwork of many, many people. I’m still helping my mom get around, often volunteering to drive her to and from teaching class at various colleges, and pushing her to think about writing a book with our Doctor in the near future. There is a specific niche of covering pancreatic cancer that has been ignored and I believe its time to change that! I’m looking forward to our first PetScan tomorrow and crossing my fingers for more shrinkage!! I think that its most definitely possible! Two weeks ago I took my mom to New York, which is my annual gift. Each year we see and Broadway Show and explore NYC. This year was especially significant, for obvious reasons, and the trip went off without a hitch. We decided to stay the night in order to allow m mom to rest in between activities and got a great deal of walking in… after the show she walked nearly 20 blocks!!
Saturday I attended panCAN’s national symposium for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness in Philadelphia with my friend, Christine. I learned so much and made wonderful contacts. Most importantly, the conference reaffirmed that we are moving on the right track with regard to all areas, from medically and nutritionally, to even emotionally.
