It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on this goal: 19 months according to the site. Well, I was about 6’ and 145 lbs then. Since then, I’ve had an amiable divorce. My wife left, but it was for the best all around. Anyway, that gave me some motivation to actually get in gear.
I feel like I’ve been making some real progress. I’m getting a scale shortly, and I’ll post some pictures as well. The best advice I found was to not take advice or work out with people who gain weight easily. We’re just built differently than them, and if you’re listening to or watching them then it’s pretty easy to get frustrated at your own progress.
Volume and nutrition of food are of course important. What I found is that I had to find a work out system that motivated me. I always had trouble feeling like I was making progress. So, I started off with a 15lb dumb bell and did some basic workouts for 30 minutes. My plan was to work out every third day and add 3 minutes each time. Once I got up to an hour, I would bump up the weight 5 lbs and drop the time back to 30 minutes. This way I could always know that I was moving forward. It hasn’t worked out quite as smoothly as I intended, but I’ve stuck to the basic idea. And I’m really improving the look of my body. Most importantly it’s progress I feel I can maintain.
I guess I’m not recommending this program. I’m not an exercise scientist. But I do know that finding a program that consistently motivates me has worked better than researching a vetted program that doesn’t.
Good luck,
Joe
