It's Been a While 11 months ago

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on this goal: 19 months according to the site. Well, I was about 6’ and 145 lbs then. Since then, I’ve had an amiable divorce. My wife left, but it was for the best all around. Anyway, that gave me some motivation to actually get in gear.

I feel like I’ve been making some real progress. I’m getting a scale shortly, and I’ll post some pictures as well. The best advice I found was to not take advice or work out with people who gain weight easily. We’re just built differently than them, and if you’re listening to or watching them then it’s pretty easy to get frustrated at your own progress.

Volume and nutrition of food are of course important. What I found is that I had to find a work out system that motivated me. I always had trouble feeling like I was making progress. So, I started off with a 15lb dumb bell and did some basic workouts for 30 minutes. My plan was to work out every third day and add 3 minutes each time. Once I got up to an hour, I would bump up the weight 5 lbs and drop the time back to 30 minutes. This way I could always know that I was moving forward. It hasn’t worked out quite as smoothly as I intended, but I’ve stuck to the basic idea. And I’m really improving the look of my body. Most importantly it’s progress I feel I can maintain.

I guess I’m not recommending this program. I’m not an exercise scientist. But I do know that finding a program that consistently motivates me has worked better than researching a vetted program that doesn’t.

Good luck,
Joe

Getting There 11 months ago

I feel like I’m getting much closer to this goal. I’ve had an amicable divorce since my last entry, and in retrospect the marriage had me holding on to a lot of unhealthy habits. Now that that’s gone, I find myself much more in control of my emotions. I’ve still got a few issues I’d like to release, but I feel that I’m getting very close.

score 170+ on the LSAT (read all 3 entries…)
Feeling Hopeful 2 years ago

I’ve revised my goals following my latest score. I picked up a 170 on #34. I said before that I needed a 164, but now I’m really eyeing that 170. I know it’s just a single test, and it’s older/probably easier than the newer ones, but I’m pretty confidant now.

After taking a diagnostic test, I started with PR’s Cracking the LSAT. It gives a great idea of exactly what the questions are asking for and some tips for solving them. It also taught me the basics of how to solve games. I picked a test, #32, and reserved it and all more recent tests for full test timed practice. I’ve gone through a few individual sections, mainly games, in the earlier tests; I take the section timed and then review it with as much time as I need.

So, hopefully I can repeat and or improve this score.

Good luck,
Joe
