My Problem Solved Itself

I busted one of the tuning machines on my guitar, I had to get all of them replaced. Which required restringing. Boom, I asked the guy to restring it left handed and now I will be able to play no problem. w00t!
Learning upside down

I fished mums old guitar out of the garage, went to the library and got myself a couple books about learning acoustic and got started. I immediately ran into a problem that can’t be as major as it seems to be.
The guitar is upside down. The strings are inverse to what they should be. The Low strings are at the bottom. If I turn it over, I’m playing with the wrong hand.
I would be perfectly happy to learn upside down, with the low strings at the bottom, but I'm now unsure of the fingering I should be using. The fingering in the book is for people who are playing their guitar in the proper direction. Mum would pitch a fit if I restrung her guitar, and I can't afford to buy one.What should I do?
