Here in Austin, we now have two thriving atheist groups. We do cable access TV and internet shows, and we get together for lectures, and support political protests.
People are uneasy around atheists largely because they do not talk to them. You often hear casual slander of godless people; well-meaning theists blame a lot of society’s problems on us. I’d say don’t be a jerk about it, there’s no need to bring it up at every possible opportunity. But if somebody says something that ought to be answered, then answer it. It’s hard at first, but in the long run you’ll be glad you did.

I’ve been using Quicken for years to pay bills online. At first this was a big productivity boost as I could just type in the payee one time, then enter an amount and click send. You can even schedule recurring payments in the same amount every month.
And that’s the problem… the more I managed to put on autopay, the easier it got to just ignore the new physical mail coming in until “later.” I still need to check it to make sure I haven’t overpaid or underpaid anything, or missed any checks or something.
Now there’s this enormous stack of mail that’s overflowing my box and spilling over my desk. Sitting down and opening the stuff, double checking the amounts, and going over old online checks to balance everything seems like an overwhelming task right now.
