learn Mandarin
A good start... 20 months ago

I took a ten week course at a local centre. He taught us way more than I learned, but I am surprised how much I did pick up. I am taking the Rosetta Stone 3 month subscription to consolidate what I have and add some more hopefully.

I did it. She was happy. I was happy. Why was it so hard!

Complete "The Artist's Way" (read all 2 entries…)
Week 1 Complete 2 years ago

I haven’t done a complete week, as in 7 days, but I have kept morning pages for 5 out of 5 days. I have done 2 of the exercises and I am planning to do another today. I have sort of done an artist’s date. I had an felt making weekend booked for this weekend and it was cancelled. But I did have the 2nd session of my book arts course and as it involves meeting new people and seeing their work and making art, I am letting it count for this week. Not every week though!

Just starting 2 years ago

I was introduced to The Artist’s Way last year, and serendipity made it hard to ignore. I have dabbled in morning pages, but finally I have the book and the workbook too. I have started Week 1 so far…

start a photo journal - take at least a photo a day to represent my life
LomoDiary 2 years ago

I started last week, taking 1-5 photos every day with my Lomo LCA+ I am off to a rocky start, because it is a film camera. I am planning to take notes so that when the photos come out I can keep 1 or 2 per day and write about it. Ideally I will shoot a roll a week more or less and then there isn’t such a delay. I haven’t kept many notes so far, and I’ve forgotten the camera once or twice. Oh well.

learn to drive
I learned to drive at 25 2 years ago

It took a whole year, and I failed two driving tests, but I persevered and it was worth it. Once you’ve learned though, try to keep it up or the FEAR comes back.

Keep an art journal
Start today... 2 years ago

I started my first art journal in 2005. I haven’t filled one, but I don’t think that is important. I would like to keep one as an everyday book and then that would get filled. I have one for 2005-2006, but then my style and focus changed; a fabric one that I made as I worked and a couple from holidays.

It is good for my art and good for my sanity! They are on my blog if you want a peek.

go to Artfest
So worth doing! 2 years ago

I loved it, and I think SarahtheSarah was there, I am sure I met her in the meal line a couple of times.

submit something to a scrapbooking magazine
Scary but rewarding! 2 years ago

I probably wouldn’t have done this if I hadn’t met some a few of their design team, but that gave me the nerve. Doing it a few times is even more worthwhile because then you get over the “what if they don’t select my page!” fear – because, sometimes, they won’t! Good luck!

get a degree
Dropped out... 2 years ago

...at 17 went back at 27. I was working full-time and studying in the evenings and I loved it. Having the qualification changed my life!

I was born in Beijing and my mum and I keep talking about going back. We are starting to talk about planning it, so it may well happen next year.

lomography
I love Lomo 2 years ago

I have an LCA+ and a Fisheye2, both quite new. I have shot a handful of rolls with each. What is the appeal for me? I love the lack of control bizarrely, having spent hours in photoshop too. I love the community. I love the idea of capturing a moment. I love the irony of the ultrasharp len combined with the shoddy body.
