I feel like I’m too self focused. Not to say that I don’t care about others (quite the opposite, I feel that I’m very compassionate), however, I do feel like I spend way too much of my energy focused on me and not enough on the world around me. I need to be informed and form opinions about issues in our world. I am making a concious effort to exercise my rights (to an opinion, to free speech, etc) by educating myself about the decisions that are being made all the way in Washington DC – about my life!
Now…what sources can I trust? First up: Time Magazine. I’m a little lost with some of the topics, but I gotta start somewhere.

I’m going to walk/jog a half marathon on November 25th. This isn’t something I can half-ass. I must work towards it. Since it’s several months away, I’ve set a mini goal of losing 20 pounds. I figure any workout will improve my strength and endurance for the race – and it’s a more focused goal.

I’m going to throw a bridal shower for my best friend. She and her fiance don’t live together, so when they combine households they won’t have much more they need. So…I’m going to have a Bar Party. The guests can bring gifts that relate to making a decent bar, like glasswear, and napkins and mixes and alcohol, of course. And we’ll eat appetizers, and maybe a part of the activities we do (she’s not much of a game person) will be making a few appetizers there, to learn new recipes. And we’ll drink, too :)
I’m going to see what Martha (Stewart, a smart woman) has to say about it. I’m sure she’s got some ideas that I can tone down to my level (and my wallet).
