So, I have been thinking about it a lot the past couple of days and I just recently decided to apply to study for a year in Japan instead of just a semester like I originally planned. So far, after what seems like a whirlwind of frantic searching (which is VERY unlike me), I’ve narrowed it down to two programs: The Associated Kyoto Program and The Japan Center of Michigan Universities.
I also just found out that the application for The Associated Kyoto Program is due on January 23rd, hence this entry’s title. I’ve been working really hard to get it done, but I know it’s going to be close no matter how hard I work.
I really hope everything works out although I’m still really unsure if I am going to go for a year or not. But, I figure that it’s always good to have the option of going as opposed to NOT having the option, right? がんばって、ね?

How I did it: I've always wanted to try rock climbing, it looked like a fun time and an amazing challenge--but I've always been too scared and too self-concious to do so. So, when I was told my college was building a new fieldhouse (gym) I was super excited to hear that a rock climbing wall was going to be put in as well! It just opened a couple of weeks ago, so I signed up to go with a mid-sized group from my dorm to try it out. At first I super scare… Read how I did it…
I’d been studying Japanese a little bit in high school when I got picked to go on a foreign exchange to Okinawa, Japan for 6 weeks in the summer. When I was there, I completely fell in love with the Japanese Language and Culture. Even since then, I’ve been working towards learning (and eventually becoming fluent in) Japanese. Once I started college, I’ve been studying every year and have now been taking classes for a year and half…but I realized studying Japanese for 45min. three days a week just wasn’t going to get me where I wanted to go. So, I’ve started my own studying plan based off the method(s) presented by alljapaneseallthetime.com and have been working hard ever since. It basically goes like this…
1. Finish Remembering the Kanji (volume 1) by James Heisig (which entails learning 2,042 kanji)
2. Sentences, sentences, sentences…the “10,000 Sentences Method” described by Khatzumoto at alljapaneseallthetime.com
At the moment, I’m at kanji number 400 in Heisig’s book, still taking classes at college, using iKnow (http://www.iknow.co.jp/) occasionally, listening to A LOT of Japanese music (provided by bestfiction and music_mind at livejournal as well as JpopAsia), watching Japanese drama’s from D-Addicts.com, and I will be studying abroad in Shiga Prefecture, Japan at the Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU) for 4-5 months. I will definitely keep working until I reach my goal of fluency in Japanese…がんばって、ね!
