What sort of things would make someone happy? Here some ideas I had:
- Make my brother a sandwich
- Get mum breakfast in bed
- Make a card telling my boyfriend / best friend why he/she rocks
- Help my neighbor with her kids when she looks sick / tired
- Give money to a charity
And some ideas from helpothers.org
- Share your umbrella with someone you don’t know
- Pick up some trash when you see it
- Write a thank you note to someone who has done something nice
- Smile at someone you don’t know
- Hold the door open for someone
- Defend someone who is being bullied
- Visit a retirement home in your community
- Make friends with someone who is lonely

I love my parents… they let me stay at home with rent or anything because they know how hard it is to get by flatting in chch (insane housing market atm). Problem is, with mum at least, we often conflict in basic personality etc. It gets hard sometimes to ‘get’ the other person. I want to work harder at putting myself in her shoes. Maybe if I go out of my way to make her smile then it will smooth many of our interactions. Anyone have any ideas for spontaneous acts of kindness that mothers would appreciate? Maybe cleaning / washing clothes etc…?

When we were little we spent all our time together. We’re 18 now and my brother is really reserved and big on ‘personal space’. When my family was at the mall the other day mum made me cry (long story) and he shuffled round the table and put his arm around me. It was amazing! I just sat there for about five minutes crying into his shoulder and then when we left he walked with me. It’s nice to know he’s there for me.
