Rats are great pets as they love to be handled. Rats are also very cute and spend a lot of the time cleaning themselves like a cat contrary to what most people think.
I’ve had eight pet rats in total. My best friend was a black rat called Muffins who I had raised since birth but she died last month. I cried for ages after that because I was so attached so I have to warn you, they only live a few years. My rats just sat on your shoulder and snuggled into your neck when you took them out, it was adorable. rats are very intelligent so you can also teach them tricks but I never did anything like that with mine.
Another thing I have to mention is that rats are quite susceptable to tumours. Quite a few of my rats passed away from a tumour or two. Two of my rats (shown in the picture; sisters Muffins and Isa) lived long enough to get very bald and have trouble walking but eventually passed away when a tumour sucked the life out of them, causing them to become very frail and bony before dying.
