I’ve never been a radical. My views have gradually shifted further and further from the mainstream towards the alternative. However I’m now trying to give myself a crash course in protesting. The recent review on Home Ed will be a violation of our human rights, and of our children’s. It’s that simple. I have to fight this.
It’s not easy trying to muster up a fight when I’m also trying to care for my kids 24/7 and by the time I get to the computer in the evening I’m so tired I can hardly string a sentence together. I’ve just sent out a rather emotional and alarmist email to my local home ed list, because there’s been no debate about the review yet. We haven’t got time to sit back and see what happens, there’s only 4 weeks before it comes into effect. It’s being rushed in, making it harder to fight it. But there are plenty of others out there who’ve made the same decision and are fighting back too. Um, if you’ve read this far then mentally playback La Marseillaise or the Internationale at this point…

How I did it: I used the bag pattern from the Tiny Happy website, altering it slightly. It makes a good everyday bag; not too small, not too big. For the knitted bag I used the pattern from One Skein knits - although I've used totally different yarn and needles so it's not the right shape. It's a fun little bag though. I'd still like to make a bag that I think is -wow!- but in the meantime, these will do the job perfectly well. I haven't got a picture … Read how I did it…
I finally finished “The Fabric of Autism” (Judith Bluestone) – it’s an amazing book, very informative and detailed, it’s just a pity I got derailed halfway through. I’ve since lent it to a friend who I think is now going to buy her own copy. Really I feel I need to read it again and make notes. So as well as this I’ve read 2 books on Home Educating with ASD, and one on parenting an ASD child. Obviously I still intend to read more as the year goes on – I’ve got the rather large Tony Attwood book to wade through, but I’ve done what I said I would.
I’m breaking this goal down into pieces rather than proclaiming “Move house!” First goal is to get the house on the market, which means finishing all the DIY, decluttering, cleaning, tidying, etc. It seems rather overwhelming. However, I’ve fallen in love with a property we saw at the weekend – that needs to be my motivation.
