I’m not an artist. I drew the “idea” for the tattoo, thinking the artist would use it as a springboard and make it better. She didn’t. Luckily it’s on my back and I don’t have to look at it.

The secret to coming out to your family is to be a huge major screw-up for several decades before you do it. Don’t graduate from college, change jobs a lot, have a couple of failed marriages, be a messy housekeeper and forget your mom’s birthday … a lot.
When you come out it will be so much better than most of the things you’ve had to call home about over the years that they’ll be relieved you’re just queer and not pregnant … again.
