Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Catchup Entry

I’ve realised I actually watched a few of these movies without remembering they were on this list. So:

Children of Men
Fun, interesting film. Kind of reminds me of 28 Days later, but it’s smarter than that. Unfortunately it’ll never be a classic because it’s just a bit silly and cliche. That doesn’t make it bad, just… less good than it could have been.

I really, really enjoyed this film. I loved how restrained it was in its framing. There was so much story to tell across so much time but it was all told in a focused two weeks. So clever.

The Room
Genuinely the funniest movie I have ever seen. It MUST be seen with other people.

Something about this one reminded me of The Great Gatsby, or The Secret History. Strange for a definitively futuristic sci-fi, but I think I’m a bit in love with this movie for achieving that.

Funny, but nothing special. I went in with expectations that were much too high. I didn’t think it would have such a quintessentially chick-flicky plot. I wish it had tried to be a little less predictable, because it obviously was the product of a quality comedy team.

Once Upon A Time In America

This one took a while to get going, but once it did, it was excellent. Long, but excellent.

I’m not sure I liked the ending much, but on the other hand… maybe I did? I guess I would’ve preferred something a bit more believable after such a down-to-earth setup. Oh well. It was still good.

Worth watching. Go watch it.

The Walking Dead

Well, that was depressing.

That’s no bad thing, of course. It should be depressing. It’s a zombie apocalypse. The fact that it very nearly made me cry at one point probably means it’s a success.

An interesting kind of game. Not sure how many more of these types I would play, but I can’t say I disliked it. I’m glad it was short and episodic, though. This genre has strong potential to overstay its welcome.
