Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

lose 90 lbs
5.5 lbs gone!

My goal for this year is to lose 70 pounds, and so far, so good. 5.5 lbs gone! This week I’m working on trying to raise my weekly rate loss rate to 1.5 lbs. It’s currently at about 1 lb per week.

publish my book
Long. slow. process.

I have re-written and finished my book to the best of my ability. I’m currently sending it out to agents. I’ve been rejected by all the top agents, so I’ll be moving on down the list. :)

RAISE THE LEVEL OF LOVE IN MY LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIP. (read all 8 entries…)
We've been together two years.

And we just moved in together. Although this will always be a goal I’m constantly maintaining, I feel like I’ve accomplished getting into and staying in a long term relationship. Frankly, it was easier to get into than falling off a log, and although there have been a few bumps in the road here and there, we’re rock solid. My primary advice to those out there looking is to forget about everything you think you want in a partner, date EVERYONE, and practice being loving instead of critical.

accomplished.

This year I unexpectedly moved in with my boyfriend, and it definitely feels like my “own” place, but better. Not only is there no tension from the experience of having roommates, which is what I would have rid myself of by moving into my own place, but there’s this fantastic friend I come home to who brings me such joy. I consider this goal “accomplished.”

nuthin'

I haven’t done anything to accomplish this, but I definitely feel a “push” towards it. I want more and more to move into my own place. Right now the funds are not forthcoming… but I believe they will be.

in a relationship for almost a year.

He’s a great guy, and although we have our ups and downs, the relationship is fantastic. I really love him. Will we marry? I don’t know. But the love is growing.

Someone wonderful. via online dating. Who would have guessed? :) So far, it’s going really well. Stay tuned.

I am swiftly gaining ground.

I joined match.com. I have a date tomorrow morning with someone who, so far, seems wonderful. World, wish me luck!

I am still moving towards this.

I have definitely started re-investing in my friends. That was a good first step. I’m going to join a dating service. That’s my second step. I’ve written my little descriptive “blurb”. I still have to take a couple pictures. I’ve always been sort of wary of these things…but it seems pretty innocuous. At the very least it will get me out into the world, and help me to take a new risk.

next goal is 6 months. I feel great, the weight is dropping off, I’m not hungry.

Definitely worth doing. especially his self-portraits.

I am moving towards this.

I decided the first step was to re-invest in all my friends, and start putting more effort into my social life in general. So that’s what I’m working on.

So far, 12 days. I'm going to make it this time.

Then I’m going to go for 180 days completely raw. Yes I am.

Practice yoga regularly
This practice will subtley change your life.

Daily yoga, if only a few sun salutations, completely alters my mental perception. I eat healthier, sleep better, treat people more lovingly, treat MYSELF more lovingly, and things that might have once upset me have no power to do so anymore. It’s the most healing, complete, uplifting form of exercise I’ve ever used (and i’ve done daily aerobics, swimming, running…you name it, I’ve probably done it.)

Almost!

I got through nine days. My last smoothie fast was only five days. And after that, I went back to cooked food for a week. This time, I managed to stay completely raw, even though I was eating two avocados a day for a couple days.
