How I did it: I live with a community of artists that are mostly vegetarian, and I have been vegetarian for the past 4 years.I decided to eat only vegan items when I cook, bring dishes to potlucks, and when ordering out at a restaurant. However, if I get invited to someone's house for dinner, I will not turn down items that may contain eggs, milk, or cheese. So, I'm not strict vegan, but I'm happier and healthier with the choices I've made. Read how I did it…
I started attending meetings for the Cooperative Association of Memphis (CAM). It’s great! We’re in the beginning stages of forming our non-profit corporation. As of right now, we’re busy planning fundraisers to pay for incorporation fees and other things we need.
Our mission statement basically says we’re here to help other co-ops from going under. After my lease is up on my apartment, I plan on moving into one.
I started volunteering with a dog rescue organization here in Memphis, called Good Dog Rescue. I take photos of dogs to be put on their website. It felt very rewarding to help out even just with the little I did.
I had the first (of many) BFA Candidate meeting. I have to jump through 438 hoops and in 3 months I will be a college graduate. I’m also going to apply for the Dean’s Artist Residency program. Wish me luck.
