How I did it: After 3 laser treatments there wasn't much difference to be seen, and all that scabbing and pain and nastiness was just adding insult to injury, and finally it dawned on me, I WANT IT CUT OUT. I was at the point where I would have done it myself if I could see it, but it's on the back of my neck. So I had my Dr. excise it almost 3 weeks ago. I AM TATTOO FREE!!! It's still healing. Time will tell how much scar… Read how I did it…
I’m really disappointed. I have to amend my previous pronouncement that it’s not painful. The laser itself doesn’t hurt because of the anesthetic, but that wears off pretty quickly. My second and third treatments bled through the bandage before I got home. The worst thing is that it’s like a festering burn for more than two weeks afterward, it’s extremely itchy and painful. Well no, that’s not the worst part. This is the worst part: THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO DIFFERENCE. No fading, except for slight fading in the center of the stars, and it’s uneven and gross. So here I am, with a terribly scarred, sore neck, and $600 poorer. If it weren’t the back of my neck, I’d just get a scalpel and snip out the ink myself. What a blower.
For anyone who has heard that having a tattoo removed is more painful than getting it: IT’S A LIE!!!
Maybe that was true 50 years ago, when all they could do was put acid on it or cut it out.
I got mine lasered 10 days ago and the doctor injected novacaine into it first, so the laser didn’t hurt at all.
It does hurt somewhat now, since it’s all scabby and whatnot, but no more than it did when it was new. Also, I’ve been bad about picking at it. But it’s so exciting when a bit of scab comes off and it has ink in it! Makes me feel like it’s working. I haven’t been able to see the difference yet in the actual tattoo, but that’s supposed to be normal. I’m looking forward to seeing it fade!
