They might be sparse, but in a lot of cities (Garden Grove and Fountain Valley to name two) they have Karaoke places that rent out little studio rooms by the hour! It is a lot of fun, and a great way to get started if you are nerveous or shy. You avoid having drunken guys hollaring at you, singing in front of total strangers, having to hear people whom you dont know sing poorly, and having to wait for your song to come up. My friend and I will split the cost of an hour and we will just switch back and forth on the songs. You can even bring in a tape (or in some cases a CD) and record what you sing while you are there. Might make a good christmas present for mom or something. It’s pretty awesome!

I’m in my sixth year of being a swing dancer now, and I am still super in love with it. The people are awesome, the music is great, I either feel like I am flying or like a yo yo, it is a good workout, great opportunities for cheap travel and making friends from all over the world! It takes time and perseverance to get into the swing of things (pun intended), but it is well worth the effort!!! Don’t give up… you will get the hang of it!
Life is a journey. Life is not about what I own, what deeds I do, the sins I commit, the people I offend, the money I earn, my style, where I live, if I’m married, how many kids I have, the age I live to or even the choices I make. All of these events are strung together, mishmashed with atributes I have and choices that I make, to form one long journey. This journey is aimed at a closer walk with God. Every catastrophy that happens, happens so that I might run back to his arms and give more of myself to him. Every lesson learned shapes my character and my relationship with him. It is not about pain or joy… it is about where I allow him to take me and what I allow him to teach me. It is a battle between my will and his way. That is why my life is soooo centered around growing closer to him…. submitting my will to him. I don’t always suceede, but I at least try to want to submit my will to him. Everything…. love, friendship, family, politics, economics, death, tradgedy, joy, and pain…. everything is a catalyst for growth in Christ if you let it be, and you allow the work to take place…. even if you don’t allow it, growth will take place anyway. It is such an amazing process and journey. In my mind there is nothing better to pursue in life than growth. It’s gonna happen anyway, I might as well embrace it and learn my lesson with the fewest number of tests!
