My roommate and I went to Jerusalem last year just for 3 days. Growing up this was one of my dreams, to actually see and walk where Jesus walked. But being there didn’t do anything for me. The Old City, where all the tourists go, is just so religious. It made me feel sick. I saw people praying to statues, kissing statues, kissing the ground, & touching old stones and buildings as if they were holy. I have a real problem with this. Sure these old buildings are interesting and historical and they can help us understand the world Christ lived in, but they’re not holy. God alone is holy. We need to be worshiping Him, not buildings and stones on this earth. God cares about our hearts, not our religion.

I have always wanted to see a shooting star and it finally happened for me back in December. My friend and I were hiking at Petra (in Jordan) at night. On the trail down to the siq the sky was more amazing than anything I’d seen before. We got away from the lights of the parking lot and the whole sky was black and lit up with stars. I’ve been a city girl for most of my life so I rarely see a whole sky full of stars. As I looked up I saw the first one fly across the sky and it took my breath away. Later as we reached the Treasury again I looked up and saw another one! Then as we were leaving we both saw a 3rd one at the same time! I don’t know what was going on in the heavens that night, but we saw three in a row. It made for a great ending to a great day at Petra.
