you can do it.
I’ve never really liked drinking water, and I’ve always loved drinking soda. For awhile, I was up to four and sometimes even five cans of coke a day – that’s how bad my habit was. And it wasn’t even diet, it was the full blown stuff. I’ve tried weaning myself off, and I tried going cold turkey several times, only to cave in a couple days later.
So what did I do differently this time? I invested in a flat of bottled water, put four or five in the fridge to get cold, and drink them throughout the day. I recycle the bottles by filling them up again with filtered water, and rotated in new bottles after awhile (a flat ends up lasting a very long time.) Also, I stopped buying soda and I didn’t drink anybody else’s when they bought it.
It’s been awhile since I’ve had a soda… more than a few weeks, I think. Strangely enough I don’t miss it… I think once the initial cravings for sugar are gone it gets much easier to live without drinking it. I will still probably opt for soda when I go out to eat, but as I rarely dine at restaurants I don’t think it will be a problem.
