I’ve learnt how to swim when I was 5 years old. Later on, I joined the swim team, became a lifeguard and a swim instructor. Funny though, I still have much to improve my technique, and lifeguard training and swim instruction courses were not easy for me. However, learning from the ways I’ve found to overcome my mistakes, teaching swimming went pretty well for me.
Knowing how to swim opens many doors- the most important is safety, others mean you can learn different water sports (such as surfing and scuba diving). The ability to swim opens an entire new world for you- the sea. Humans are terrestrial animals, so swimming is usually a skill to be learnt. I encourage everyone to learn how to swim- including adults. It’s never too late and you should only feel shame if you don’t try.
Recently I moved my swim practices from the pool to the open sea- I recommend it!
