How I did it: I worked on my portfolio whenever I could, cramming the work into lunch periods, Saturdays, teacher inservice days and 6 hour long sessions at the last minute.I would not advise my method to anyone, but it was the only thing I could do, given the circumstance of taking 6 IB classes this year and doing a lot of other extra-curricular activities. Read how I did it…
Last week I entered the third level which is all about proper turn when switching partners. I was completely lost even when my friend and these two guys tried to show me. This week I got it!! I could do all the steps without messing up (except for something small like dropping my left hand onto my partners shoulder a beat late)One of the teachers said “You’ve got it down! Just relax.” I felt more and more confident and could do the sequences without thinking about it much. ....but the main teacher still didn’t let me pass to the next level. I am more disappointed than I should be. It reminds me of when I took swimming lessons as a child and got stuck at the polar bear level when I was 7 with 5 year olds because I couldn’t do the backstroke. But I won’t quit like in the case of swimming lessons. And the point is to have fun and just dance….I keep forgetting this.
I went again this week and passed the level on my first try! Don’t be afraid to ask someone to show you a move a couple times if you get confused. I still need to work on putting more weight into my steps.
