How I did it: In sometime around December 2007, I asked Japanese friends, my contracting organization, and co-workers to see if they knew anyone who was willing to teach me how to play the koto. Finally, around February 2008 after a conversation with one of my co-workers, I found out she knew how to play both the koto and shamisen.
