This will probably sound very silly for many of your who have already mastered this, but does anyone know of a good book for basic hand stitching. Like sewing on a button or fixing a hole in a shirt or doing a very basic project. I want to try to master my hand sewing skills before I invest in a machine.
Thank you :)

Although Christmastime is a big deal for my family, it’s because we host a party for usually close to a hundred people and we do everything from scratch. I find that my family gets stressed out and moody while we are running around cleaning, cooking, and baking. Plus I have my grad school finals the week before Christmas which doesn’t help to add to the stress. By the time Christmas is over every year I always feel like I absolutely didn’t enjoy myself and wasn’t in the Holiday spirit and wish I could try again.
My plan so far is to do my Christmas shopping now before the crowds hit the stores. That’s all I have so far…any more ideas would be helpful :) thanks in advance!

I think the economy was a good wake up call to alot of 80’s and 90’s children like myself who was in the more is always better mentality. I never used to think twice about buying a latte or going out to eat with friends. It’s sad that so many people have been negatively affected by our current recession, but I am thankful that it gave me a good smack in the head to start saving now in case something bad ever happens to me or my loved ones.
I find that staying in and cooking meals from scratch and renting Netflix movies (I use promotion codes that you find on the internet to get them for free), can be just as fun as an expensive night out. I make my own coffee, bring my own Brita filtered water and lunch to work and grad school, and try to make sure I use up everything in the fridge by meal planning so we don’t waste anything.
I am still a bit of a beginner to being a saver, do you have any more ideas for me? What do you do when the “I need that item right now” syndrome kicks in? Thanks in advance for the help :)
