Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Over the last week:

I’m grateful…

~ that I’ve met a person I really click with in class.
~ for the nice front desk people I usually see even if the rest of ‘em make me uncomfortable.
~ for awesome teachers.
~ for teachers who don’t give me the derogative one-over like some classmates do.
~ for the fact that my friends say I’m easy to talk to.
~ that I’m trying harder and finding it a teensy bit easier with each time to talk to new people, even if it’s casual conversation.
~ that I do have so many awesome people around me here in my new home, despite the fact they are an hour or more away (still close enough).
~ that awesome sites like exist.
~ that I am learning to more more calm and collected when talking to my parents.
~ for the fact that I seem to have guardian angels.

Take vitamins daily (read all 3 entries…)
Reminding self

I believe it would help if I kept the vitamin in plain sight at all times! :)

Enjoy the present (read all 2 entries…)
I did so today

when I hung out with my new friend from my class. We had a blast, just window shopping and then eating at a great restaurant. At night, she invited me over to have dinner with her friends. :)

Unfortunately, I am now crunched on time for homework. sigh

take dance classes
Salsa, ballroom, waltz, pole dancing, modern ballet,

hip-hop, tango….oh the possibilities!!!!

There is a dance festival type of thing going on in my city in a couple of weeks. I might go check out some free introductory lessons during that time.

Learn to speak Japanese
I'm waiting

on a friend’s Rosetta Stone software. He got it as a gift I think or he bought it himself but he’s not using it anymore. He has yet to send it to me and then I need to trade that with a care package I’m sending too. So much to do but it’ll be exciting when I start learning!

Enjoy the present (read all 2 entries…)
I'm a person who looks to the future

One could say I escape “to” the future while I’m in the present in order to avoid the past. Weird, right? Anyways, I want to stop doing that. I want to fully experience the present to the best of the opportunity I’m given. I need to create opportunities for myself as well to enjoy what I do have where I am now with who I’m surrounded with.

I’ve taken steps towards doing this by looking up events around the city and outside. I’m asking friends if they’d like me to visit them or anything (hate to intrude) and such like that. So I have some things planned for this month :) like a festival this weekend and then I’m cooking later that night with other friends. Later this month is a film festival, which sounds exciting, as well as a beer festival. I know a couple people who would definitely be interested. Fun times :).

Finish reading "A People's History of the United States." (read all 2 entries…)
Spring break

I was going to do this during spring break but I didn’t even touch it. :( Sadness. I’ll catch a few chapters during weekends, I guess or whenever I have free time.

study art history (read all 2 entries…)
Due to some complicated thing,

I’m not allowed to study art history as a class at my college unless I do a new contract and pay for the extra class (it’s a lot more complicated than a regular university). So my choices are to go to another school like a community college or just study on my own. I just realized that it is definitely not going to work out if I take a class somewhere else because I won’t be able to do it until fall semester (schedule conflicts). Unfortunately, I don’t want to go so long without any knowledge of art history…so I might just pick up a few reference books and start reading on my own. That’s the tougher option. :(

Journal regularly (read all 3 entries…)
I know it's hard for me to do it daily.

So thus I am going to try to do it at least weekly (preferably twice a week so I don’t have as much to write all at once). :)

It’ll be a good start. I’m about 2/3 of the way through my current moleskine. I’m hoping I’ll finish it by the end of this month. I plan to do a bunch of things with friends this month and the weather’s improving…so…we’ll see! :D

eat more organic foods (read all 2 entries…)
All I will say is that

Trader Joe’s is such a wonderful supermarket. It has such affordable organic produce!!! Makes me happy because I can now eat healthier without completely deflating my wallet! Wonderful!

I hear Whole Foods is also good – perhaps I shall visit one soon.

Study psychology on my own for self knowledge (read all 2 entries…)
A personal interest!

Psychology is an area that I love and adore. I simply want to learn more about it. I’ve taken some basic courses but I don’t have time to take lectures – and lectures bore me anyway. So maybe I’ll just read some books on my own for fun. I think it could help me with how I see myself and others and learn more about the interactions between people.

How exciting! I should hit up the library sometime this month…pick up some interesting books. :) What a fantastic idea.

get good grades
I earned a wonderful GPA

3.5 :)

I feel the C+ is a mistaken grade so I have emailed the teacher asking why and what happened. I’m truly bewildered since I’d been doing very well to the end and do not feel that my final project earned a D, as it would’ve taken a D or F to lower it that much.

learn french
I am new to 43t and this goal!

Hello there. This is the first goal I’m adding and I’m excited about looking for goals to add to my list. There is so much I have to do but I guess I have to narrow it down to simply 43 goals. :) No small task.

Whoo, french here I come!
