I was 42 years old when I quit, and had been smoking for 25 of those 42 years – how pathetic! I was up to about 2 – 3 packs per day, and I just had gotten sick and tired of being sick and tired. I know what heroin addicts must go through when they stop, but once the monkey is off your back, it’s total freedom! I can go to movies now and not feel like I need to go have a smoke. I can ride in other’s cars. I can attend 3 hour meetings without climbing out of my skin. I don’t have to stand outside in the snow/cold/heat/rain to smoke anymore. My wife loves it that I quit…My kids love it…I love it!
November 10, 2002 was the last cigarette I had. No relapses. No regrets. Just quite cold turkey. The first 72 hours are hell. The rest are manageable. Good luck! I did it – so can you.
