Had my 27-week OB appointment Tuesday and came out smiling, smiling! My doctor was actually friendly and responsive for once. And she told me the sugars in my urine are super super low! YES! Which means the insulin injections are making a huge difference. Apparently I had “trace amounts” of sugar, just like any other normal pregnant woman without gestational diabetes. She also gave us the follow-up on our high risk ultrasound last month, and confirmed that I will NOT be diabetic after the baby is born, and that Piper has no known birth defects due to the elevated blood sugars in the beginning.
I mentioned my concern about gaining only 4 or 5 pounds overall so far. My aunts and cousins are freaking out because when I sit down, I don’t really look pregnant. Just kinda chubby :) And they’re all like, “Oh, by the time I was 6 months I had gained at least 20 or 30 pounds.” Well, my OB told me to tune them out and that my body doesn’t need 30 extra pounds right now, or ever. I’m not the skinny chick who’s “all belly.” Piper is growing normally and I measured exactly 27 weeks, so all is well.
Such a relief! Taking my blood sugars after each meal is one thing, but the urine analysis is what I like to go by. It’s more…official? I dunno. But I’m one happy mama!
