ever since I was a little and saw the movie Mermaids for the first time, I have wanted to reinact the way Cher is her bathtub, closes her eyes, lets her finger land on a US map and then thats that – she moves there in a few days. I often day dream of doing just that, well, maybe without the whole moving there thing. I think a road trip would suffice the urge.

Another life goal of mine is to find a career that is rewarding – hopefully that one more of a short-term aspiration. One thing holding me back from aggressively seeking my career is that I’m torn between 2 career tracks; market research and clinical psychology. My heart is in psychology and my brain is in consumer research. So…my brain will do a cost-benefit analysis on my heart’s desires :)
Con of the Ph.D. = having to get my doctorate (a.k.a. devoting time to research to enhance my CV just to get in, $, time) when I can’t promise that I will practice when I have children.
Pro = I will eventually be able to work from home (granted I have an in-house office that complies with state standards) and make my own hours
Now if only my brain could figure out how to get from point A to point C without ever bumping into point B…actually, I would love earning my Ph.D., I just don’t know if I can justify the cost to my family (my loss of income during school, the cost of graduate school) if I can’t guarantee that I won’t be a full-time stay at home mother/wife.
Everytime we take a road trip to St. Louis to visit the in-laws, we pass this antique car dealer visable from I-55. And everytime Brian says how one day he will get a car from there. Mind you this is no short-term goal, but one day I would like to surprise him by taking him to purchase one. I was hoping to do it for his 30th birthday, (which is creeping up), so we will see!
